Iona

Creating Space for God
About IONA

Iona is a small island off the western coast of Scotland. In the 6th century a Celtic Christian community was established for prayer and nearness to God. From this community, the good news of Jesus Christ spread to barbarian lands bringing them life and freedom.

Kathy and John had the privilege of visiting Iona while serving as missionaries to self-described pagan young people in the pubs, streets, and markets of Camden Town in London. Their own spiritual renewal during these days gave them a heart for a Trinitarian spirituality that moves outward into a world of need.

Iona represents for them a place of God’s presence.

With this in mind they named their ministry IONA to help people create space for God and learn practices to experience God's presence. IONA is rooted in knowing the Trinitarian God who is revealed in Christ, Scripture, and creation.

By grounding action and mission in practices and rhythms that create space for God, IONA expects the life-giving experience of God’s presence to transform people into the likeness of Christ for the sake of others.
